Thursday, March, 5 2026 - Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Kano State have arrested a suspected gun-runner and a fraudster in separate operations, seizing firearms and counterfeit cash, the command confirmed on Wednesday.
The NSCDC Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Idris Abdullahi,
disclosed in a statement on Wednesday that the gun-runner, identified as
31-year-old Suleiman M. Uba from Tashene Village, Zaki Local Government Area of
Bauchi State, was intercepted along the Murtala Muhammad Way in the Kano
metropolis during a routine patrol. The suspect was reportedly en route to
Kebbi State while in possession of six firearms.
“The arrest followed credible intelligence and proactive
patrol operations aimed at curbing the proliferation of illegal arms and light
weapons, as well as preventing criminal activities within Kano State and
beyond,” the statement said.
In a separate operation, the corps also apprehended
37-year-old Abbas Lawan Garkuwa in Kwankwasiyya City, Kumbotso Local Government
Area. He was found with counterfeit US$600,000 (equivalent to N900m) and
several Juju items reportedly used to defraud unsuspecting members of the
public.
Abdullahi said both cases are under thorough investigation,
and legal action will be taken against the suspects.
“The command, under the leadership of Commandant Mohammed
Hassan Agalama, reiterates its unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and
property. We also urge members of the public to continue providing timely and
useful information to security agencies to enhance collective security,” the
statement added.
These arrests come amid heightened efforts by security
agencies to tackle illegal arms circulation and financial crimes in Kano State.
