Man arrested with 800 rounds of ammunition concealed in motorcycle fuel tank




Thursday, March, 12 2026 - The Zamfara State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old suspect, Mannir Adam, for allegedly transporting 800 rounds of AK-47 ammunition concealed in the fuel tank of a motorcycle.

The spokesperson of the command, DSP Yazid Abubakar, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.

According to the PPRO, the suspect, a resident of Yankuzo village in Tsafe Local Government Area of the state, was intercepted at about 7:50 p.m. on Tuesday along the Gusau–Funtua highway. 

“In a continued effort by the Command to checkmate the activities of criminal elements and restore normalcy across the State, operatives of the Zamfara State Police Command have successfully arrested a suspect in possession of a large cache of live ammunition,” the statement read.

"On 10th March 2026 at about 1950hrs, a team of Police operatives while on routine patrol along Gusau–Funtua Federal Road at the Yankara checkpoint acted on credible intelligence, which led to the arrest of one Mannir Adam, 25 years old, male, of Yankuzo Village, Tsafe LGA, Zamfara State, who was riding a red Boxer motorcycle.




"A thorough search conducted by the patrol team led to the recovery of eight hundred (800) rounds of AK-47 7.62mm live ammunition, carefully concealed inside the motorcycle’s fuel tank.

"Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect was travelling from Unguwar Bawa, Saminaka LGA of Kaduna State, and heading to Kucheri Village in Tsafe LGA, Zamfara State.

"The suspect and the exhibits were immediately taken into custody and subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further discreet investigation, with a view to apprehending other members of the criminal network and bringing them to justice.

“The Commissioner of Police, Zamfara State Command, CP Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, psc+, reiterates the Command’s commitment to combating crime and urges members of the public to continue providing credible and timely information to assist security agencies in safeguarding lives and property.”
