Sunday, March, 8 2026 - A Nigerian woman, Joy Ogidinta, has revealed that her marriage ended in divorce six months after she officially adopted her husband's surname.
According to her, she had retained her maiden name after
their marriage.
Joy added that she decided to take her husband's surname
after the birth of their son, who sadly passed away.
“When I got
married, I didn’t change my surname to my husband’s according to tradition,”
she wrote in a Facebook post on Thursday, March 6.
After I had
my son; even though he passed. I felt it was the right time to finally answer
my husband’s last name.
Guess what?
That same year; we got divorced. That surname lasted barely 6 months.
After doing
newspaper publication and affidavit to change my name from Ogidinta to his
name, I now had to do another change of name to go back to Ogidinta.
The things
women go through. Now I’m here wondering, when I remarry, will I now do another
affidavit again?
Life is funny sometimes.
