Wednesday, February 18 2026 -The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested 22 suspects in connection with various crimes, including armed robbery, drug trafficking, shop-breaking, burglary, vandalism and domestic animal theft across the state.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday in
Dutse, the state capital, by the Police Public Relations Officer of the
command, SP Shi’isu Adam.
According to the statement, operatives from the Shuwarin
Division intercepted a suspect, Sulaiman Usman, 30, in possession of a
suspected stolen motorcycle bearing blood stains.
“The suspect confessed to having boarded a commercial
motorcyclist at the outskirts of Bauchi State, where he attacked the rider with
an iron object and made away with the motorcycle,” Adam said.
The police also arrested several suspected drug dealers
during separate operations, recovering three blocks of cannabis and 7,096
assorted illicit drugs.
Adam said the suspects arrested in connection with
drug-related offences included Ibrahim Abdullahi, Alhaji Balarabe Adamu, Hassan
Muhammad, Saidu Barrister, Magaji Usman, Suraja Ibrahim, Idris Adamu, Ibrahim
Mamuwa, Kabiru Abdullahi, Alhaji Adamu, Garba Kalacci, Adamu Abdullahi, Sadik
Abubakar, Aliyu Sabo and Nafisa Tasiu.
“The operation is part of our ongoing efforts to curb
substance abuse, particularly among youths, and to dismantle networks that fuel
social vices and insecurity,” he said.
In Hadejia, the police spokesman said eight suspects were
arrested over shop-breaking, with 39 different yards of materials and three
sewing machines recovered.
“During investigation, the suspects confessed to the crime
and will be prosecuted accordingly,” Adam noted.
He further disclosed that in Kazaure, operatives arrested a
suspected burglar, Usman Nura, 22, and recovered a solar battery and an air
conditioner believed to have been stolen.
In separate operations in Gwaram, Maigatari and Taura towns,
the police arrested two suspected vandals—Abdullahi Abubakar, 20, and Abubakar
Aminu Baffa, 35—and recovered a large quantity of vandalised cable wires.
The command also said five suspects were arrested in
connection with domestic animal theft in Maigatari, Sule Tankarkar and Hadejia
local government areas, with 13 animals recovered.
“The recovery has brought renewed hope to affected farmers
and livestock owners whose livelihoods depend on such assets,” the police
spokesman said.
Adam added that all suspects would be charged to court upon
the conclusion of investigations.
He quoted the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Dahiru
Muhammad, as commending officers and men of the command for their dedication
and professionalism, urging them to sustain the tempo.
The commissioner also called on members of the public to
continue supporting the police with timely and credible information, assuring
residents of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across
Jigawa State.
