Friday, February 20 2026 -Some mischief makers attempted to set an INEC building on fire just days before the FCT Councils’ elections which is set to take place on February 21.
The INEC office building, which is under renovation was
targeted today, February 19.
At about 7:30a.m. today, Police in Abaji division received
report that some unknown persons were attempting to set the building on
fire.
The police patrol team raced to the scene and the fire was
extinguished.
According to the police, "From on-the-spot assessment
of the location, foul play is suspected as the building is still under
renovation."
"The contractor is yet to meet the project
deadline," the police added.
"It is of note that the office is empty and not the one
in use.
"Main INEC office remains safe and secure."
The police assured that “armed personnel are on ground
maintaining large and order and the situation is being closely monitored.”
