Monday, January 19, 2026 - The Nigerian music scene is currently grieving the passing of Afeez Adeshina, who is professionally known as Destiny Boy.
The Afrobeats singer was 22 years old.
Reports of his de@th began to circulate on Sunday, January
18, 2026, after a social media update from a prominent journalist, Temilola
Sobola.
Announcing the singer’s demise, Sobola wrote, “Singer
Destiny Boy has passed away. May his soul Rest In Peace🕊️.”
Details surrounding the cause of Destiny Boy’s de@th have
not been confirmed.Neither his family nor his management team has released an
official statement to explain what led to his passing.
Destiny Boy became popular at a very young age and built a
name for himself in the Nigerian music scene with his street-pop style.
He began attracting attention after a 2019 version of
Davido’s hit “If” done in a Fuji style went viral online.
This helped him grow a fan base and led to more covers of
songs by Nigerian stars such as Tekno, 2 Baba (2Baba), 9ice, and Small Doctor.
In November 2024, reports revealed that he had welcomed his
first child at the age of 20.
Earlier in March 2024, the singer was also in the news after
reports emerged that he proposed to his partner with a diamond ring believed to
be worth millions of naira.
