Police arrest 3 suspects attempting to sell stolen tricycle in Enugu

Saturday, January 24, 2026 - Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have arrested three suspects while allegedly attempting to sell a stolen commercial tricycle in the state.

The suspects, identified as Chuka Nwanze (23), Arinze Anyansi (24) and Miracle Anyadiegwu (24), were arrested on January 20, 2026, at about 5 pm by policemen attached to the Trans-Ekulu Division, with support from members of the Neighbourhood Watch Group.

According to a statement released on Friday by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, the suspects were apprehended at the Ugbodogwu area of Trans-Ekulu.

He said, “Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command, acting on credible information, arrested three male suspects who were seeking a buyer for a stolen Bajaj tricycle at the Ugbodogwu area of Trans-Ekulu, Enugu.”

The police said they recovered the yellow and black Bajaj tricycle from the suspects.

During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to stealing the vehicle, bearing Bauchi registration number NNG 445 WZ, from where it had been parked in the Obiagu area of Enugu on the night of January 19.

The suspects also admitted to attempting to sellvits three tyres, and were allegedly in the process of disposing of other parts before their arrest.

Ndukwe disclosed that an investigation has commenced to apprehend other members of the suspected theft syndicate and recover additional exhibits, and the suspects will be charged in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.

The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mamman Giwa, urged vehicle owners to remain vigilant and install basic security features to deter theft and aid the recovery of stolen vehicles.

City Round gathered that there has been a recorded uptick in “one-chance” robberies involving tricycles, as well as the outright theft of these vehicles.

Because tricycles are often acquired through hire-purchase agreements, their theft often results in the total loss of livelihood for the victims, making these arrests a high priority for local authorities to maintain public order.
