Monday, January 19, 2026 - Operatives of the Federal Highway Patrol on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in Oyo State have recovered a red cloth containing bones and other items suspected to be parts of a human corpse, concealed among passengers’ luggage.

Osifeso, disclosed this in a statement issued in Ibadan, the state capital, on
Sunday.
According to the statement, the driver of the vehicle,
Kazeem Ayegbo, who was travelling from Lagos to Osogbo, was apprehended during
a routine stop-and-search operation along the route.
Osifeso said the suspect would be charged in court upon the
conclusion of investigations.
The statement partly read, “Operatives of the Federal
Highway Patrol intercepted a commercial vehicle during a routine
stop-and-search operation along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway near Guru Maharaji
Village.
“A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a red cloth
containing bones and other items suspected to be parts of a human corpse,
concealed among the luggage.
“The driver, Kazeem Ayegbo (male), travelling from Lagos to
Osogbo, was apprehended. Investigation has commenced to determine the origin
and intended purpose of the recovered items, with investigative efforts
extended beyond Oyo State to identify and apprehend all persons connected with
the incident.”
The command assured residents of the state that the case was
being handled with utmost professionalism and diligence.
It reiterated its commitment to ensuring that all offenders
are brought to justice and urged members of the public to continue cooperating
with the police by providing timely and credible information, noting that
sustained public support remains vital to maintaining peace and security across
the state.
Meanwhile, the police also confirmed a suspected murder
incident at a construction site in the Iyana-Ajia area of Ibadan, which was
reported at the Akanran Police Division.
Investigations revealed that a disagreement between two
casual workers escalated into a violent confrontation.
Osifeso said, “During the altercation, Lawal Ibrahim (male),
aged 22, allegedly stabbed Raimi Ige (male), aged 18, with a broken bottle,
inflicting fatal injuries. The victim later succumbed while being conveyed to
the hospital.
“The suspect was arrested, and the corpse was deposited at
the Adeoyo State Hospital morgue for post-mortem examination.
“Given the nature of the offence, the Commissioner of Police
has ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation
Department, Homicide Section, for discreet investigation, after which the
suspect will be charged in court accordingly.”
The statement added that emergencies could be reported
through the Oyo State Call Response Centre toll-free lines.
