Thursday, January 8, 2026 -Two Nigerians, identified as Miracele Onyeka and Moses Chinoso, are facing deportation from India following their arrest by the Delhi Police.
The duo was apprehended during a routine patrol on
New Year’s Eve. They were reportedly residing in India illegally after
overstaying their visas and failing to possess valid travel documents.
According to a report published on Sunday by The Hindu, the
arrests followed a tip-off received during New Year celebrations.
The report stated, “The Delhi Police on Sunday (January 4,
2026) said the South-West District team apprehended two African nationals who
were found illegally staying in India without valid visas.
“The accused have been identified as Miracele Onyeka and
Moses Chinoso, both Nigerian nationals. Necessary legal proceedings for their
deportation have been initiated through the Foreigners Regional Registration
Office in RK Puram.”
It added that the operation was carried out by the
Operations Cell of the South-West District as part of a focused drive against
illegal foreign nationals, noting that dedicated teams had been tasked with
gathering intelligence and taking strict action against individuals living in
the country without proper documentation.
“During initial questioning, the suspects claimed they
entered India on tourist or business visas and said their documents had been
submitted to their embassy for safekeeping.
However, verification through the Immigration Department and
other official sources revealed that both had overstayed their permitted period
and did not possess valid visa documents,” the report said.
The incident is the latest in a series of enforcement
actions by the Delhi Police aimed at curbing immigration violations in the
Indian capital, with investigations ongoing to determine any further links.
