Thursday, December 4, 2025 - A 39-year-old man has been arraigned before a Magistrates’ Court sitting in Akure, Ondo State, for allegedly stealing a pregnant female dog valued at N500,000.
The defendant, Joseph Raphael, was arraigned by the Ondo
State Police on a three-count charge bordering on stealing.
The crime contravenes sections 390(9), 495 and 516 of the
Criminal Code, Cap 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
The police prosecutor, Adebayo Sulaiman, told the court that
Raphael, alongside others still at large, committed the offences in October
2025.
According to the prosecutor, the defendant stole the dog
belonging to one Bernard Monday at Atabioloko Street, behind Federal Girls
College, Akure, the state capital.
While applying for bail for the defendant, his counsel,
Ogboye, assured the court that dependable and reliable sureties would be
provided.
The magistrate, Damilola Sekoni, however, granted the
defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in the same amount,
directing that the sureties must present affidavits of means, provide two
passport photographs each of themselves and the defendant, and show proof of
gainful employment.
With the magistrate also directing the registrar to verify
the addresses of the sureties, the case was subsequently adjourned till January
16, 2026, for hearing.
