Thursday, December 4, 2025 - A former presidential media aide to the late President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, has applauded the decision of President Donald Trump’s administration to bar individuals involved in financing or supporting terrorism from entering the United States.
Politics Nigeria reported earlier that the US Secretary of
State, Marco Rubio, on Wednesday announced that the US government would impose
visa restrictions on “those who knowingly direct, authorise, fund, support or
carry out violations of religious freedom”.
The policy shift has attracted widespread commendation from
concerned Nigerians and several international advocates, who argue that
Christians in Nigeria are facing persecution.
Reacting in a post on his official X handle on Wednesday
night, Bashir described the visa ban as a positive and necessary step.
He wrote: “This is a welcome development. All individuals,
whether in Nigeria or abroad, who are causing trouble, fuelling destruction or
contributing to killings in our country should be banned. Ban them all.
“They are also killing my fellow Muslims, not only your
Christian brothers and sisters. Anyone undermining our peace and stability
should be denied the privilege of ever setting foot in the United States
again.”
