Abducted Chinese expatriate regains freedom after over three months

Monday, December 8, 2025 - After over three months in the kidnappers’ den, a Chinese expatriate abducted by gunmen on September 5, 2025, at BUA Cement Plant, Okpella, has finally regained freedom.

The Chinese expatriate simply identified as Mr Wang, was abducted when gunmen stormed the BUA cement plant and killed eight personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC.

A statement by the Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Police Command, Moses Yamu, stated that the expatriate regained freedom on December 2, 2025, at 11:30 pm at a location in Kabba, Kogi State.

Yamu said the release of the kidnapped victim followed sustained technical and tactical operations jointly executed by the Edo and Kogi State Police Commands, with support from vigilante groups and local hunters.

He said the Command commended all partners involved in the successful rescue effort.

The Command did not disclose whether ransom was paid for the release of the expatriate.

It was, however, gathered that the expatriate left Nigeria immediately after regaining his freedom and has since returned to China.

The Command was, however, silent on the update of efforts to arrest the suspected kidnappers.
