Wednesday, December 24, 2025 - Nine people were killed, and five others injured when a speeding trailer crashed into their bus on the Kaltungo–Cham Road in Kaluwa community, Kaltungo Local Government Area of Gombe State.
The accident occurred at about 8:33 am on Monday, Dec.
22.
The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in
Gombe State, Samson Kaura, confirmed the incident.
Kaura said 18 people were involved in the accident, with
five sustaining varying degrees of injuries while four others escaped
unhurt.
“The victims were rushed to the General Hospital in Kaltungo
for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the
hospital’s mortuary,” he said.
He added that preliminary investigations indicated that the
crash resulted from loss of control caused by excessive speed and brake
failure.
Kaura said: “The trailer was speeding on a sloping road and,
as a result, lost control and hit the Sharon bus from behind, which caused the
bus to somersault.
“We have been advising motorists to avoid excessive speed,
especially given the nature of the road, which is sloping. Drivers must travel
at a controllable speed to prevent such crashes and the loss of lives and
property.”
The sector commander also urged motorists to check their
vehicles before setting out on any journey, especially during the festive
season.
