Tuesday, November 11, 2025 - Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers attacked the Eruku–Egbe road in Kwara State on Sunday, firing at vehicles that refused to stop.
The assailants terrified travellers, particularly motorists
along the route, leaving them with no option but to either comply or risk being
shot.
Adekimi Ojo, the Kwara State Commissioner of Police,
confirmed the incident, revealing that a motorist who was fired upon sought
refuge at Eruku Police Station until the following day rather than continue his
journey, fearing another attack.
While clarifying a viral report that the kidnappers had
seized the route on Monday to terrorise motorists, Ojo dismissed the
circulating claim that the incident occurred on that day.
“I am not aware of any crisis on that route today (Monday).
What you are referring to happened on Sunday at about 4:00 pm, when the
suspected kidnappers fired at a vehicle, and the driver drove straight to the
police station in Eruku. Certainly, they were kidnappers, because their reason
for firing was to force the driver to stop so that they could transload.
However, the driver who defied them went to our police station and stayed there
until this morning when he left,” the police commissioner stated.
