Tuesday, November 11, 2025 - The Jigawa State Police Command says it has made key breakthroughs in its efforts to tackle car and motorcycle theft across the state.
Police spokesperson SP Shiisu Lawan Adam said in a statement
that on November 7, 2025, officers from the Safer Highway Patrol Team in
Ringim, working with the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, intercepted a white Toyota
Hilux belonging to the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO).
“The vehicle, with registration number ABS 16 MR, was
discovered to have been stolen in Dutse Metropolis,” the statement said.
“The suspect abandoned the vehicle and fled into the bush
when he sighted the patrol team.”
The police have recovered and secured the Hilux while
efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspect.
In another operation, the police on November 9 arrested one
Muhammad Muhammad, aged 44, from Gombe State, in connection with a stolen
golden Toyota Corolla LE. The car, with registration number KBT 932 TJ, was
reportedly stolen in Kano State.
“The suspect could not provide satisfactory proof of
ownership,” the police said.
“He had changed the plate number to Adamawa JMT 98PD after
stealing it.”
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal
Investigation Department for further probe before being sent to the Kano Police
Command for prosecution.
In a separate incident on the same day, police at the Dan
Masara checkpoint arrested one Suraja Gaye, 28, from Dangoli town in Kiyawa
local government, for allegedly stealing a motorcycle.
Officers said his suspicious behavior led to a search that
revealed inconsistencies in his claims of ownership.
The suspect is now in custody as investigators try to locate
the motorcycle’s rightful owner.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Dahiru Muhammad, praised the
officers and vigilante members for their alertness and professionalism and
urged them to keep up their efforts.
He also called on residents to share useful information that
could help security agencies track down criminals.
“The Jigawa State Police Command remains committed to
ensuring a peaceful and secure environment for all residents,” the statement
added.
