Sunday, November 23, 2025 - The Zamfara state Police command says it has successfully foiled a bandits’ attack and rescued 25 abducted victims after armed men invaded Kuraje village in the Damba area of Gusau Local Government Area.
The attack occurred on Friday at about 9:45 p.m. when “a
group of armed bandits in large numbers, wielding dangerous weapons and firing
sporadically, attacked Kuraje village,” the police said in a statement issued
on Saturday by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar.
According to the statement, the assailants abducted “10
women along with 15 of their children, all residents of the community,” before
fleeing towards the outskirts of the area.
Abubakar said joint patrol teams from the Damba Division and
the department of Operations, Gusau working alongside the community protection
guards responded immediately after receiving the distress call. The operatives
“swiftly mobilized to the scene,” confirmed the attack and “pursued the fleeing
bandits,” engaging them in what the police described as “a coordinated and
strategic operation.”
Their effort led to the safe rescue of all 25 victims, whom
the police said were “successfully rescued unhurt” and relocated to Sabongari
Damba for safety and proper profiling.
The statement added that the women and children have since
been reunited with their families.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba,
commended the officers for their gallantry, describing their response.
