Thursday, November 13, 2025 - Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested a suspected gunrunner in Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State.
Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade
Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, who disclosed this in a statement on
Wednesday, 12 November 2025, said the suspect identified as Abdulmudallabi
Audu, was apprehended with an AK-47 rifle, two magazines, and 53 rounds of
ammunition.
“In continuation of ongoing operations across Taraba State,
code-named Operation LAFIYA NAKOWA, troops of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army / Sector
3, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have recorded another significant success in
the sustained effort to rid the state of criminal elements and illegal arms,”
the statement read.
"Acting on credible intelligence, on 12 November 2025,
troops conducted a raid operation at Shagada Village under Namnai Ward in
Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State, which led to the arrest of a
suspected gun-runner identified as Mr Abdulmudallabi Audu, aged 25, who was
found in possession of arms and ammunition.
"Items recovered from the suspect include: one (1)
AK-47 rifle, two (2) AK-47 magazines, fifty-three (53) rounds of 7.62mm special
ammunition.
"The suspect and the recovered exhibits are currently
in the custody of 6 Brigade Headquarters for further investigation and possible
prosecution.
"The Commander, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier
General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their vigilance,
professionalism, and swift response to actionable intelligence. He reiterated
the Brigade’s commitment to sustaining aggressive operations across Taraba
State to ensure peace, security, and the protection of law-abiding citizens
within the North East and adjoining regions.
“He further urged members of the public to continue to
provide timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing
efforts aimed at dismantling criminal networks and restoring lasting peace in
the state.”
