Monday, November 10, 2025 - Police in Zimbabwe have launched an urgent nationwide manhunt after a Tsholotsho man allegedly stabbed his friend to death over a spilled beer.
According to authorities, the suspect, 33-year-old Mehluli
Moyo, had been drinking with 22-year-old Luckmore Nhliziyo when tempers flared
after Nhliziyo accidentally knocked over Moyo’s drink. What should have been a
trivial mishap rapidly escalated into a violent confrontation. Witnesses said
the argument intensified almost instantly, with Moyo’s anger rising to the
point where the situation became uncontrollable.
Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the
assault was vicious and frenzied. He explained that Moyo allegedly pulled out
an okapi knife and stabbed Nhliziyo multiple times across his body during the
drinking session, inflicting wounds so severe that the young man collapsed on
the spot and died shortly afterward. The suddenness and brutality of the attack
have left the community shaken.
After the killing, Moyo reportedly fled the scene and has
since disappeared, prompting a widespread manhunt across Tsholotsho and
surrounding areas. Commissioner Nyathi has appealed to the public for help,
urging anyone with information on Moyo’s whereabouts to immediately contact the
nearest police station. Authorities say community cooperation is critical to
ensuring the suspect is quickly apprehended.
The death of Luckmore Nhliziyo has cast a dark cloud over
the area, serving as a painful reminder of how ordinary social moments can veer
into tragedy when tempers are unchecked. As the search for the fugitive
continues, the victim’s family and friends are left to mourn a life that ended
over a moment of senseless rage.
