Friday, November 28, 2025 - A herder, Buba Usman, was on Thursday arraigned before an Akure Chief Magistrate’s Court for allegedly engaging in unlawful open grazing and destroying farm crops valued at N1,115,000.
Usman was brought before the court by operatives of the
Amotekun Corps on a two-count charge bordering on open grazing and malicious
damage to crops.
According to the prosecution counsel, O. F. Baba, the
defendant unlawfully grazed his livestock on November 22, 2025, on a farmland
located in the Ileyo Community along Isagba Pelebe Road, Akure, belonging to
one Ayodele Adebowale.
Baba further alleged that Usman willfully damaged the
farmland, which contained cassava, maize, tomatoes, and other crops, all valued
at N1,115,000.
The offences, according to Baba, contravene Section 32(1) of
the Ondo State Livestock Rearing and Grazing Regulation and Ranching
Establishment Law, 2021, as well as Section 451 of the Criminal Code Law of
Ondo State, 2006.
Usman, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Chief Magistrate T. I. Ayodele-James, granted the defendant
bail in the sum of N700,000, with two sureties in like sum.
The case was adjourned to December 4 for further
hearing.
