Friday, October 31, 2025 - The management of Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, has rusticated a 200-level student of the Department of Biotechnology, Ezi Ugoma, for uploading a video on TikTok showing a dying student allegedly involved in an abortion incident.
Ugoma was rusticated for four semesters, effective from the
2025/2026 academic session, and is expected to resume her studies in the
2027/2028 session.
According to a letter signed by the Principal Assistant
Registrar (Students), Ughwumiakpor A., on behalf of the Deputy Registrar
(Students), Ugoma was found guilty of breaching her matriculation oath and
engaging in gross misconduct.
The letter stated that she, “inappropriately filmed and
uploaded the scene of a dying student at the University Health Centre on social
media,” an act which the institution described as “a violation of the
university’s code of conduct.”
Ugoma had appeared before the Students Disciplinary
Committee (SDC) on August 21, 22, and 25, 2025, to defend herself against
allegations of gross misconduct and breach of the matriculation oath.
“After due consideration of the Committee’s report, the Vice
Chancellor, Prof. Samuel O. Asagba, approved the recommendation that you be
rusticated for four semesters on the offence of assault, with effect from the
2025/2026 academic session. You are to resume studies with effect from the
2027/2028 academic session,” the university’s letter stated.
The letter added that copies of the disciplinary decision
were forwarded to her sponsors and other relevant authorities for information
and further action.
