Saturday, October 18, 2025 - Rasheedat Ajibade and Esther Okoronkwo have been nominated for the 2025 CAF Women’s Player of the Year award.
Super Falcons captain Ajibade, who now plays for Paris
Saint-Germain, was named Player of the Tournament at the 2024 Women’s Africa
Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in August. The forward contributed one goal and two
assists during the competition, and has been in fantastic form for her new club
since her summer move.
AFC Toronto star Okoronkwo also played a pivotal role in the
Super Falcons’ triumph in Morocco. The 28-year-old was highly influential at
the biennial tournament, registering two goals and a staggering six assists.
She was also named the Super Falcons' Fans' Player of the Tournament for her
match-winning exploits, including a goal and two assists in the final.
They are joined on the shortlist by eight other top players
from across the continent. These include reigning award holder and Zambian
forward Barbra Banda (Orlando Pride) and her compatriot Rachael Kundananji (Bay
FC).
Other nominees are Ghanaian defender Portia Boakye (Hapoel
Petah Tikva), Senegalese forward Mama Diop (RC Strasbourg), Moroccan duo Sanaa
Mssoudy (AS FAR) and Ghizlane Chebbak (Al Hilal), and Malawian sisters Tabitha
Chawinga (OL Lyonnes) and Temwa Chawinga (Kansas City).
