Wednesday, October 1, 2025 - Three persons reportedly d!ed in a road accident that occurred near the Ogba River bridge in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State.
The victims, a commercial motorcyclist popularly
known as an Okada rider, and his two passengers were k!lled in an auto crash on
Monday night.
An eyewitness told Punch on Tuesday that the
speeding driver of an SUV, lost control and rammed into the motorcyclist,
k!lling him and his passengers.
“The driver of the vehicle lost control and ran over the
Okada rider and his passenger. He was at top speed, and it became very
difficult for him to control the vehicle when it began to swerve,” the witness
said.
Colleagues of the late okada rider took to the streets to
protest incessant k!llings occasioned by accidents along the Airport Road,
claiming that the driver of the car was into Advance Fee Fraud known locally as
Yahoo Yahoo.
One of the protesters, Abdullahi Usman, said the deceased
okada rider was their union secretary.
“These Yahoo Yahoo boys do not care about another person on
the road. The accident was very severe. It was the Divisional Police Officer at
the Estate Police Station who calmed frayed nerves. We are calling on the
police to do a thorough investigation and bring the culprit to book,” Usman
said.
The spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, Moses
Yamu, who confirmed the accident said that an investigation was ongoing.
“I can confirm to you that the accident and the Okada rider
and his passenger were k!lled. However, an investigation is ongoing to bring
anyone who is liable to justice.”
