Friday, October 31, 2025 - Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested an ex-convict, Segun Kolawole, for robbery just five days after his release from the Kirikiri Correctional Centre.
The spokesperson of the command, SP Adebisi Abimbola, who
disclosed this in a statement on Thursday said Kolawole, 25, allegedly stole an
Infinix Note 40 Pro smartphone and N200,000 cash from a trader in Opebi, Ikeja.
He was apprehended around 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the Oshodi
Market after RRS operatives noticed he was in possession of a large sum of
money and became suspicious.
Upon interrogation, he could not give a satisfactory explanation for the N80,000 found on him or the phone in his possession.
“Subsequent investigation revealed that Kolawole had stolen
the cash and mobile phone around 5:00 a.m. from a trader who was asleep near
Peka, Opebi. The victim was later traced and confirmed the theft," the
PPRO stated.
Recovered from the suspect were N80,000 cash, an Infinix
Note 40 Pro smartphone, newly bought clothes, and shoes.
In a related development, RRS operatives also arrested two
suspected pickpockets, Sodiq Isa, 27, and Adekanmbi Ganiu, 21, for attempting
to steal mobile phones from commuters at Ojota Bridge and Orile Roundabout,
respectively, around 5:00 p.m. on last Friday.
The suspects, according to police, confessed to the crimes
during preliminary investigation.
“All three suspects have confessed to their involvement in
the offences and will be charged to court upon completion of investigations,”
said Adebisi.
