Saturday, October 18, 2025 - The Kano State Police Command has arrested five men for allegedly posing as police officers and extorting unsuspecting citizens across Kano, Katsina, and Kaduna states.
The suspects identified as Aliyu Abbas, 35; Sani Iliyasu,
47; Ashiru Sule, 41; Abubakar Yahaya, 45; and Adamu Kalilu, 45 were arrested on
October 16, 2025, around 1:00 p.m. by operatives of the Command’s Special
Intervention Squad (SIS) following credible intelligence.
Police spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed
the arrest in a statement issued on Saturday.
He said the suspects were caught parading themselves as
police officers and were found with incriminating items.
“During the operation, the team recovered a fake police
warrant card, a pair of handcuffs, CFA2,500, mutilated naira notes in different
denominations, and a blue Peugeot 406 vehicle with registration number
NSR-188-BD,” the statement read.
Kiyawa added that during interrogation, the suspects
confessed to impersonating police officers to extort innocent people and engage
in other illegal acts.
“They admitted to using the fake police warrant card to
deceive and intimidate citizens in Kano, Katsina, and Kaduna states,” he said.
The Police Command noted that investigation is ongoing, and
the suspects will be charged in court once the process is completed.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu
Bakori, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to maintaining law and order.
“The Kano State Police Command will not tolerate any form of
criminal impersonation or illegal activity. We urge residents to remain
vigilant and report suspicious persons to the nearest police station,” the CP
stated.
