Saturday, September 20, 2025 - The Sokoto State Government has suspended six school principals over allegations of insubordination and the unauthorised collection of fees linked to Junior Secondary School examination results.
The decision was announced by the Commissioner for
Basic and Secondary Education, Ahmad Ala, through the ministry’s Public
Relations Officer, Ibrahim Iya.
“No principal or school administrator will be allowed to act
outside the law or exploit students and parents,” Ala said, adding, “Our
schools must be governed by accountability, not personal interests.” He
stressed that the government would take action against any official found to
have breached regulations.
The principals affected come from Nana Girls Secondary
School, Government Day Secondary School Gagi, GDSS Mana, Giginya Memorial
College, Mana Basic Secondary School, and GDSS Silame. The principal of GDSS
Silame was singled out for insubordination.
To investigate the matter, the commissioner established a
five-member committee led by Professor Mustapha Tukur. The panel also includes
the Executive Secretary of the Anambra State Examination Board, the Director of
Quality Assurance at the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, the
Director of Planning at the Teachers Service Board, and the Director of Quality
Assurance at the Examination Board, who will serve as the committee secretary.
Suspended principals have been instructed to hand over all
administrative responsibilities to their respective vice principals with
immediate effect. The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to discipline,
transparency, and accountability across public schools in the state.
