Wednesday, September 3, 2025 - Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma (OPFY) have freed nine people, including women and children, from kidnappers after ambushing terrorists in Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
Captain David Adewusi, the Media Information Officer of
OPFY, confirmed the rescue in a statement on Monday.
He explained that the victims were taken from Garin Bature
village in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, but were rescued
after soldiers got reliable intelligence on the movement of the terrorists
along the Isa–Shinkafi–Kaura Namoda road.
“The troops ambushed the criminals, who attempted to use
their captives as human shields, but were overpowered in a decisive exchange of
fire. Scores of terrorists were neutralized, while others escaped with gunshot
wounds,” he said.
According to him, the rescued persons include three women
and six children. They were taken to General Hospital Shinkafi for medical
checks before being handed over to Shinkafi Local Government officials to
reunite them with their families.
Soldiers also recovered an AK-47 rifle with two magazines,
20 rounds of ammunition, a motorcycle, three mobile phones, and a desert
camouflage uniform at the scene.
OPFY assured residents of the North-West and parts of
North-Central that it would continue strong operations until terrorism and
banditry are completely defeated.
The operation also called on the public to keep providing
credible information to support security efforts.
