Sunday, August 10, 2025 - The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Customs and Excise, Leke Abejide, has declared that President Bola Tinubu would secure an emphatic victory if former President Goodluck Jonathan decides to run in the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking during an interview on the Mic On podcast with Seun
Okinbaloye on Saturday, the lawmaker representing Yagba East/Yagba
West/Mopamuro Federal Constituency of Kogi State said Tinubu could win more
than 32 states in such a contest.
He said, “My prayer is that they should
run like that (on different political platforms) and Asiwaju will win 32
states. He may lose maybe Anambra, Abia; he will win Ebonyi. He may win more
than 32 states.”
Abejide, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress
(ADC), cautioned against Jonathan returning to the presidential race, insisting
that the political terrain favours Tinubu.
Jonathan, who completed one term as president before losing
to the late Muhammadu Buhari in 2015, has been the subject of speculations
about a possible 2027 bid.
Abejide also dismissed claims that Tinubu’s popularity is
waning, citing his recent travels across the North as proof of continued
support for the president.
“I
just came from Kano, I was in Kano on Wednesday and I slept there. I came to
Kaduna by road yesterday morning. No insecurity, the road is very good. Then I
came by train to Abuja this morning and I can tell you that people are happy,” he
said.
