Sunday, August 10, 2025 - The Jigawa state chapter of the All Farmers association of Nigeria (AFAN) has expressed concern over the growing influx of substandard fertilisers flooding markets across the state.
The association’s chairman, Engr. Auwal Garba Ibrahim
disclosed this while briefing journalists on the outcome of the state executive
meeting.
He revealed that the association has already engaged the
Federal Competition Consumer Protection Council (FCCPC) on the matter.
The council, he said, assured AFAN that it would take
stringent measures to identify and sanction producers and sellers of inferior
fertilisers that undermine productivity.
Engr. Ibrahim urged farmers to remain vigilant and report
any suspicious activities relating to the sale of fake or low-quality
fertilisers to the union and relevant authorities.
He warned that the circulation of such products poses a
significant threat to national food security, stressing that protecting farmers
from exploitation is essential to sustaining agricultural output.
