Police arrest 55-year-old ward head for abusing 12-year-old girl in Gombe



Wednesday, August 13, 2025 - The Gombe State Police Command has arrested a 55-year-old ward head, Mohammed Tukur for allegedly r@ping a 12-year-old girl in Sabon Gari village, Yamaltu Deba Local Government Area of the state.

The spokesperson of the command, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, who disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, August 12, said investigation is ongoing.  

“On 09/08/2025 at about 2100hrs, Zambuk Division received a report that Mohammed Tukur, male, 55yrs, of Sabon Gari Village, Zambuk, Yamaltu Deba LGA, allegedly r@ped a 12-year-old girl, Zulei Malam Dahiru, of the same address,” the statement read. 

"Police visited the scene, rushed the victim to General Hospital Zambuk for medical examination, and arrested the suspect. Investigation is ongoing.

“The Command strongly condemns all forms of s3xual violence and urges residents to promptly report cases for swift action.”

The command also arrested a wanted 18-year-old armed robber, Hassan Aminu Sadiq and recovered dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp from him.

"On 09/08/2025 at about 1430hrs, acting on credible intelligence, operatives of Kwadon Division arrested one Hassan Aminu Sadiq "M" 18yrs, of Yelwa Quarters, Kwadon, in possession of a roll of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp," the statement read.

"During interrogation, the suspect confessed to involvement in two separate armed robbery cases currently pending before the High Court, Gombe.

“The suspect and recovered exhibit have been transferred to the Anti-Violence Squad for further investigation and prosecution.”
