Saturday, August 16, 2025 - Obidient Movement launches campaign to check election rigging in 2027
The Obidient Movement has launched a campaign to check
election rigging ahead of the 2027 general election.
Unveiling the campaign in Abuja, the group’s National
Coordinator, Tanko Yunusa, introduced the rallying cry “A New Nigeria is
Possible – Get Your PVC & GO MERD” — with GO MERD standing for Get
Organised – Make Election Rigging Difficult.
He said: “Our target is clear. In every polling unit, every
Obidient will lead or join a bloc of at least 100 Nigerians — all with
Permanent Voter’s Cards. We will secure 100 per cent PVC ownership in these
blocs, go door-to-door for voter registration, and recruit 1,500 credible,
values-driven leaders to contest for public office.”
The blueprint includes deploying one million trained vote
protectors on election day, leveraging technology for real-time reporting, and
mounting “proactive resistance” against any attempt to subvert the people’s
will.
Yunusa sketched the movement’s vision of a New Nigeria,
where food is affordable, healthcare works, schools equip young people for the
future, rural economies are linked to markets, women have equal opportunities,
businesses flourish without harassment, and the diaspora can return with pride.
“Our citizens are not just leaders of tomorrow. They are on
the frontlines today, confronting insecurity, economic hardship, and systemic
injustice. The 2027 elections are our turning point.”
The campaign called on every supporter to secure their PVC
or help at least 10 others get theirs, join or create a voting bloc at
Obidients.com, mobilise friends, family, and communities, volunteer as vote
defenders in their polling units and attend rallies, town halls, and community
drives.
“We are done spectating. The tools are here, now it’s time to turn them into victory,” Yunusa added.
