Wednesday, August 20, 2025 - A Magistrate Court sitting in Ilorin, Kwara State, on Tuesday, convicted one Samson Ayadi, for assaulting a Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) patrol team.
Samson was dragged to court on a-four count charge before
Magistrate I.Y.Jimade.
The defendant was accused by the FRSC of obstructing the
corps patrol team of Oloru unit, along the Ilorin-Jebba highway by Molete
junction on 20th July, 2024.
The commission represented by a legal officer, Estine Okoro,
told the court that the convict who was a driver of a Toyota Sienna stopped and
mobilised the crowd during the incident to assault the patrol team.
“He further climbed into the patrol vehicle to remove an
impounded motorcycle, whose rider had taken caution to the wind and stripped
himself naked."
Three witnesses testified on behalf of the prosecution while
the defendant was the only witness for the defence.
The no case submission earlier made by the Defence Counsel
was overruled by the court, with only one charge sustained.
After consideration of the evidence of both parties and the
exhibits, the court held that the case has been proved beyond reasonable doubt.
In his judgement, the Magistrate convicted Samson to six
months imprisonment or N20,000 for criminal intimidation, three months
imprisonment or N30,000 fine for criminal assault, three months imprisonment or
N10,000 fine for inciting disturbance and six months imprisonment or N30,000
fine for resistance or obstructing a public officer on duty.
