Wednesday, August 13, 2025 - Barely two weeks after being sworn in as Councillor for Ward C1 in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area, Lagos State, Oluwakemi Rufai has died.
Rufai, the only female councillor in the legislative council, reportedly
passed away in the early hours of Wednesday, August 13, 2025, following a brief
illness.
The deaths were confirmed by the Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki LGA, Sesan Olowa,
and the Chairman of Lekki Local Council Development Area, Rasaki Kasali, who
described the loss as a shock to both the council and the local community.
The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), through
its spokesman Seye Oladejo, expressed deep sorrow, describing Rufai as a
“rising star within the APC” who exemplified “commitment, grassroots service,
and gender inclusion.” Oladejo added that her brief tenure reflected her
dedication to community development and loyalty to the party’s ideals.
He extended condolences to Rufai’s family, constituents, and the
Ibeju-Lekki community, noting that “her legacy of service, courage, and vision
will not be forgotten."
