Wednesday, August 20, 2025 - The Acting Governor of Katsina State, Malam Faruk Lawal Jobe, has passionately appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently intervene and provide comprehensive security support to protect the people of Katsina State from escalating attacks on local communities.
This followed the killing of 13 people by bandits during
morning prayer on Tuesday in a reprisal attack at Unguwan Mantau in Malumfashi
Local Government Area and similar attacks across parts of the state.
The Ag. Governor emphasised the critical need for immediate
presidential action to end the persistent threats facing innocent citizens.
“We respectfully request the president to give matching
orders to all security agencies to bring a decisive end to these unprovoked
attacks on our peaceful communities. The people of Katsina State deserve to
live in safety and pursue their livelihoods without fear,” he said.
Jobe stated that “our farmers, traders, and families should
not have to live in constant fear. We need our president’s direct intervention
to mobilise all necessary resources and provide the security architecture our
state requires.”
While calling for enhanced support, the Ag. Governor
expressed gratitude to security agencies currently operating in the state.
“We acknowledge and appreciate the efforts of our security
personnel who continue to risk their lives to protect our communities. Their
dedication and sacrifice do not go unnoticed,” the Ag. Governor added.
He particularly commended the exemplary role of Community
Watch Corps and Vigilante groups for standing firm in defending people against
the criminal elements.
The state government assured citizens of its continued
commitment to working with federal authorities and security agencies to restore
lasting peace and stability.
Recall that the Katsina State government had confirmed that
bandits killed 13 people during morning prayer on Tuesday in a reprisal attack
at Unguwan Mantau in Malumfashi Local Government Area.
The Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr.
Nasir Muazu, disclosed this in a statement in Katsina.
“The incident occurred when criminal elements launched a
reprisal attack on the community.
“The Muslim members of the community were praying in the
mosque during the Fajr prayer when the criminal element started shooting sporadically
in the mosque,” he said.
The commissioner further revealed that the attack was in
retaliation for the community’s successful defence efforts two days ago.
According to Muazu, people of Unguwan Mantau decided to lay
an ambush against the bandits and killed many of them.
Following the tragic incident, the security agencies, he
said, had been deployed to the area to restore normalcy.
Muazu said, “Air component commander of the Forward
Operating Base, Nigerian Army, and Nigeria Police Force have already been
deployed to clear those bandits.
“Because, during the rainy season, bandits hide under the
crops to perpetrate their evil acts. We are working towards bringing the
bandits to book.
“As a government, we salute the gallantry and disposition of
the people of Unguwar Mantau, and we are committed to fighting these bandits
and ensuring safety across our communities.
“The state government extends heartfelt condolences to the
families affected.”
He said that the state government reaffirmed its unwavering
support for community-based security initiatives while working to eliminate
criminal elements from the region.
