Tuesday, August 19, 2025 - Inter Milan have ended their pursuit of Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman after negotiations with Atalanta collapsed, with the Serie A club set to officially inform the player’s representatives that the deal will not proceed.
According to football transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano,
Inter officials are expected to meet Lookman’s camp within 24 hours to
communicate the decision and provide clarity on the failed talks.
The collapse comes after two weeks of stalled negotiations,
with Atalanta refusing to lower their valuation for the 26-year-old forward.
Despite Inter’s optimism, no compromise was reached, forcing the Nerazzurri to
walk away from the transfer.
Club insiders have clarified that Lookman’s potential move
was never connected to Nicola Zalewski’s possible transfer from Roma to
Atalanta, dismissing speculation that the two deals were linked.
Lookman joined Atalanta from RB Leipzig in 2022 and has
impressed with consistent performances in domestic and European competitions.
He also starred for Nigeria at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, scoring three
goals and helping the Super Eagles reach the final.
Inter had viewed Lookman as a versatile addition capable of
bolstering their attack amid recent squad concerns. With Atalanta unwilling to
negotiate on favorable terms, the club will now focus on alternative targets as
the transfer window enters its final stages.
