Thursday, August 7, 2025 - Officers of the Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations
Unit (FOU) zone B, have seized a truck loaded with 250 bags of smuggled foreign
rice hidden inside a tanker.
The truck was stopped on August 3, 2025, along the
Yauri–Kontagora Road in Kebbi State and taken to Kaduna for inspection. The
rice, valued at ₦20.51 million, was hidden in a specially modified tanker
and it was seized immediately.
The Zonal Controller, Comptroller AM Alkali, praised the
officers for their intelligence and professionalism. He said the unit remains
committed to stopping smuggling and protecting local industries.
In a related operation on July 17, customs officers also
seized unregistered drugs and chemicals, which were handed over to relevant
agencies. These included 58,740 sachets of unregistered medicaments and 27
cartons of Analgin injection, given to the State Director of the National
Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) in Kaduna.
Others include 3 sacks of Riodin chemical containing 990
units which were handed over to the National Environmental Standards and
Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA)” Comptroller Alkali revealed.
He called on the public to support their efforts, saying, “The fight against smuggling and unsafe products is a duty we all share.”
