Thursday, July 10, 2025 - The Police in Rivers State have rescued a kidnap victim, Mathew John-Zephaniah, following a coordinated operation by operatives of the Command.
A statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations
Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, said operatives drawn from tactical units and
divisions under the Oyigbo Area Command, in collaboration with local vigilante
group OSPAC, acted on credible intelligence and swiftly mobilized to a
suspected kidnappers’ den located in the Agbo-Nchia Forest.
According to the statement, the kidnappers, upon sighting
the police operatives, opened fire, prompting a gun duel.
However, due to the superior firepower of the police, the
kidnappers abandoned their victim and fled the scene with gunshot wounds.
Iringe-Koko added, “The victim’s HP Laptop and Redmi Phone
were recovered, along with two Android Phones and a Smart Wrist Watch suspected
to belong to the kidnappers.
“The victim was rescued unhurt and has been debriefed and
reunited with his family.
“The exhibits are currently in Police custody, while
concerted efforts are being made to apprehend the fleeing members of the gang.”
The statement also quoted the Commissioner of Police, Rivers
State, Olugbenga A Adepoju, assuring residents of the Command’s unwavering
commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
The Command further urged members of the public to report
any individual with suspicious gunshot wounds to the nearest police station or
other security agencies without delay.
