Thursday, July 10, 2025 - A Federal High Court in Lagos on Wednesday, remanded a 30-year-old man, Opeyemi Ogunjimi at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre, pending trial, for allegedly being in possession of firearms.
Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke, fixed commencement of his trial
for Nov. 6.
The defendant, was arraigned on a three-count charge, by the
Department of State Service, (DSS) for unlawful possession of firearm.
When the case was called on Monday, the Prosecutor, Mr M.O.
Bajela, urged the court to order that the charge be read to the defendant to
take his plea.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor asked for a trial date and urged the court to
remand the defendant pending his trial.
Justice Aneke, consequently, ordered the remand of the
defendant in custody.
According to the charge, the prosecution alleged that the
defendant was arrested with a locally made pistol and three live cartridges in
a public bus along Lekki -Ajah road in Lagos.
The prosecutor said that the defendant was apprehended by
operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, during a stop
and search operation.
Bajela said that Ojunjimi was handed over to the DSS for
further interrogation and prosecution.
