Wednesday, July 23, 2025 - The Super Falcons of Nigeria will face host nation Morocco in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after edging out arch-rivals South Africa 2-1 in their semi-final clash.
Goals from” Rasheedat Ajibade and Michelle Alozie were
enough to keep alive Nigeria's hopes of a record-extending 10th continental
title despite
Ajibade broke the deadlock just before the break with a fine
finish from the penalty spot after a handball by Bambanani Mbane in the South
African box.
South Africa, the defending champions, were rewarded in the
60th minute when Hildah Magaia was brought down by Osinachi Ohale, leading to a
penalty.
But just as extra time approached, Michelle Alozie struck a
sensational long-range winner deep into stoppage time to seal the final
scoreline.
In another semi-final clash, Morocco defeated Ghana 4-2 on
penalties at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat on Tuesday night.
The Atlas Lionesses and Black Queens played out a 1-1 draw
over 120 minutes, with Stella Nyamekye and Sakina Ouzraoui netting for the West
and North African teams, respectively.
The tournament hosts were then able to defeat Ghana after
they missed twice in the penalty shootout.
