Wednesday, July 9, 2025 - One of the men recently released from Kirikiri Maximum Prison after spending 25 years behind bars over a generator case has been filmed in a deeply emotional reunion with his mother.
The man was part of a group accused in 1999 of stealing a
generator — a case that saw him, a driver, and a generator repairman
imprisoned, while the actual thief was reportedly released in 2016.
According to reports, the man had been an awaiting trial
inmate since 1999. He was never convicted but remained in prison for over two
decades due to the slow pace of justice.
In a twist of fate, the same generator thief whose actions
sparked the arrests was eventually freed years ago, leaving the others to
suffer in silence — forgotten by the system.
Thanks to the intervention of Abia State Governor, Alex
Otti, justice has finally begun to prevail. The governor reportedly helped
secure the release of the long-forgotten inmates, giving them a chance to
finally return to their families and start life anew.
In the widely circulated video, the newly freed man is seen
embracing his aged mother. The mother kept holding her son tightly in
disbelief.
