Tuesday, July 29, 2025 - The Kano State Police Command has arrested fifteen suspects in a crackdown on thuggery-related crimes in the state.
The operation was carried out by Tactical teams in Sheka,
Ja'oji, and Kurna Quarters on 26th July 2025.
The spokesperson of the command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa,
who disclosed this in a statement on Monday, July 28, said the operation led to
the arrest of a suspected notorious serial armed robber, Mu'azu Barga, who is
linked to different cases of armed robbery and is responsible for leading a
series of violent attacks within Kano Metropolis.
According to the PPRO, this is part of the ongoing
"Operation Kukan Kura", a special security initiative launched by the
Command CP to detect and proactively nip in the bud any threat of criminal
activity, aligning with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP
Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, to promote community-oriented policing.
Kiyawa said the suspects, aged between 14 and 28 years, were
arrested in possession of four robbed mobile phones belonging to different
victims.
The suspects also confessed to engaging in criminal
activities, including mobile phone robbery and theft.
“Part of the operation led to the arrest of a suspected
notorious serial armed robber, Mu'azu Barga, who is linked to different cases
of armed robbery and is responsible for leading a series of violent attacks and
rivalry Daba fights within Kano Metropolis. The suspects will be charged to
court upon completion of the investigation,” the statement read.
"The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori,
PhD, has declared total war against all forms of thuggery-related crimes and
reiterates the Command's commitment to sustenance of peace and security in the
State.
