Tuesday, July 22, 2025 - The factional leader of the Labour Party, Julius Abure, has opened up about his controversial visit to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, at his residence in Abuja.
Abure, while speaking at the party’s factional
National Executive Committee (NEC) on Monday, said his visit to the FCT
Minister was misinterpreted by many.
Recall the factional Labour Party’s National
Chairman meeting with Wike had come as a surprise to many.
The meeting also caused an outrage among party
members and supporters of Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the
Labour Party.
However, making clarifications on his visit to
Wike, Abure said his meeting with the FCT minister was a private affair.
His words, “Last week, I met with the FCT
minister, and it attracted a lot of comments, a lot of misconceptions, and a
lot of talk about the photographic events.
“Now that we have the privilege of convening
this meeting, it’s an opportunity for me to make a few brief remarks.
“I want to say, firstly and very clearly, that
I am in Nigeria. I live in the FCT, and Nyesom Wike is the FCT minister,” Abure
noted.
He further stated that as a Nigerian, he
possesses the right to associate with any individual of his choice including
public office holders.
“I have the right, as a Nigerian, to interface
and interact with anybody—with any public officer in the federal government of
Nigeria.
“The meeting was privileged and, therefore,
was purely a private meeting,” Abure added.
