Wednesday, July 9, 2025 - Adamu Waziri, former Minister of Police Affairs and a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has officially resigned from the party.
Waziri, who also served as a member of the PDP’s Board of
Trustees (BoT), made the announcement at Dogo Tebo ward in Potiskum Local
Government Area of Yobe State. He cited “the exigencies of the moment and in
the interest of the nation” as the reason behind his departure.
“For record purposes. Let it be known that the current
leadership and tone of the party are inconsistent with the leadership of a
major party that should offer an alternative platform to its members to
exercise their inalienable right and freedom of choice in any electoral
contest,” Waziri said.
He confirmed that he will be joining the African
Democratic Congress (ADC) with immediate effect.
The PDP has recently witnessed a wave of defections, with
several key figures shifting allegiance to both the ruling All Progressives
Congress (APC) and the ADC. Last week, a coalition of opposition leaders
unveiled the ADC as their joint platform to challenge the APC in the 2027
general elections.
Among the prominent figures in the coalition are former
Vice-President Atiku Abubakar; Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential
candidate; Rotimi Amaechi, former Minister of Transportation; Nasir el-Rufai,
former governor of Kaduna State; Abubakar Malami, former Attorney-General of
the Federation; Senators Victor Umeh and Ireti Kingibe; and Akeem Baba-Ahmed,
the Labour Party’s vice-presidential candidate in 2023.
