Tuesday, June 17, 2025 - A resident of Benue state, Michael Ajah, has shared the sad story of how he lost 20 family members in the recent attacks by suspected bandits and terrorists in the Yelewata area of the state last weekend.
In a chat with News Central, a distraught Ajah said;
‘’My family
members died in this house, eleven of them. Some d!ed in the other store, eight
of them. My whole family members that died on that very day were 20. That is my
own family members. I am not talking about any other thing.''
He stated that his store and his house were razed down by
the assailants during the attack.
He stated that the shirt he was wearing during the interview
was the only thing he has to his name now.
Recounting how the sad incident happened Ajah said;
‘’On that
very day, rain started in the evening. I was sleeping. Around 10.20pm, we heard
gunshots,. Before we could notice what happened, Fulani herdsmen entered this
place''
When asked how sure he is that the assailants were Fulani
herdsmen, Ajah said;
‘’I was
hearing them clearly. Not that someone told me.I was inside that room and they
surrounded that room. I escaped narrowly, My brothers got burnt in this
house.''
Over 100 people were massacred in the incident.
