Tuesday, June 17, 2025 - Aubrey Anderson-Emmons, best known for her role as Lily Tucker-Pritchett on the hit sitcom Modern Family, has come out as bisexual in celebration of Pride Month.
The 18-year-old actress made the announcement in a playful
video posted to Threads on Monday, June 16. In the clip, Anderson-Emmons
lip-syncs to a memorable scene from the show where her character tells her TV
parents, played by Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Sofía Vergara, “No, I’m not, I’m
gay, I’m gay!”
Wearing sunglasses and smiling at the camera, she captioned
the video with a candid message: “people keep joking so much abt me being gay
when I literally am (I’m bi).” She added, “happy pride month to all and to all
a goodnight hehehe #modernfamily #lily #pridemonth #bi #pride🌈.”
Fans flooded the comments with love and support, many
referencing her character’s iconic on-screen dads. “Omgggg Cam and Mitch would
be so happy 😭🎀💅🏻,” one wrote,
while another added, “Like fathers, like daughter. Perks of having gay dads 😂.”
Anderson-Emmons joined Modern Family in its third season in
2011, replacing twin actresses Ella and Jaden Hiller, who portrayed Lily in the
show’s early years. She remained in the role until the series concluded in
2020.
At the time, her character Lily was part of one of
television’s most celebrated same-sex families. Mitchell and Cam’s relationship
helped the show win two GLAAD Media Awards during its 11-season run.
There were once plans for a spinoff series focused on
Mitchell, Cam, and Lily’s new life in Missouri, but the project was ultimately
shelved. “They had their chance,” Eric Stonestreet said in 2024. “Chris Lloyd
and a couple of the writers wrote a great script, and they said, ‘No.’”
Now 18, Anderson-Emmons is focusing on a different
passion—music. Performing under the pseudonym Frances Anderson, she released
her debut single, Telephones and Traffic, in May. Her second single, Don’t
Forget Me, is set to drop on June 27.
The former child star also recently appeared in the short
film Tailwinds, which follows a young girl’s passion for aviation.
