Body of man discovered on police station roof

Saturday, June 28, 2025 - Authorities in Mpumalanga, South Africa have launched an investigation following the discovery of a decomposed body on the roof of the Hazyview police station on Wednesday, June 25.

According to police spokesperson Brigadier Donald Mdhluli, officers had been disturbed for weeks by a persistent foul smell in and around the station, which they initially believed was caused by a dead rodent or another small animal. A thorough inspection was carried out on Wednesday, leading to the grim discovery of a man’s body on the station's roof.

“The body was removed on Thursday, June 26, by a rescue team to allow for all safety protocols and relevant departments to be involved,” Mdhluli said.

Preliminary assessments suggest the unidentified man may have died from electrocution, as tools were found beside his remains.

Police are appealing to members of the public with any information that could assist in identifying the deceased to come forward. An inquest docket has been opened, and investigations are ongoing.
