Friday, May 2, 2025 - After narrowly escaping a three-month jail sentence,
controversial Nigerian artist Portable has turned to tradition—and
prayer.
The singer, whose real name is Habeeb Okikiola, was
sentenced by the Ifo Magistrate Court in Ogun State for assault, but avoided
jail time by paying the N30,000 fine prescribed by the court.
Following the judgment, Portable posted a video on Instagram
that’s now making rounds online. In the video, Portable can be seen clutching
what appears to be a charm, chanting in Yoruba and praying for peace and money.
“I no want wahala again. I just want money, make money dey come,” he sang in a
seemingly spiritual moment.
Portable was convicted on two counts of assault, linked to a
2022 incident where he was accused of beating one Osimosu Emmanuel and
conspiring with others to commit the act. He had also faced a theft charge
involving musical equipment but was acquitted on that count.
Despite being found guilty, the court gave him an option to
pay N30,000 instead of serving time—N10,000 for the first count and N20,000 for
the second. He was remanded briefly but returned to court for the final ruling.
Now back home, the singer appears to be on a spiritual
reset—begging the universe, or perhaps the gods, for calm and cash.
