Saturday, April 19, 2025 - A man identified as Muhammad Ma’aba, from Fujeregi village in Gbako Local Government Area of Niger State, was reportedly b3aten to d£ath.
According to local sources, Ma’aba was ambushed on the road
between Saganuwa and Fujeregi by a group allegedly led by Alhaji Yikangi from
Chikan village, ex-husband of the woman he intended to marry.
The motive behind the attack is said to be a long-standing
dispute over Fatima Suleiman, the woman at the center of the controversy.
Fatima was previously married to Alhaji Yikan]ogi but had
been divorced by him three times, in accordance with Islamic law, making
reconciliation impossible.
Despite this, Yikangi allegedly opposed her plans to
remarry, insisting she remain unmarried.
The spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, SP
Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident in a statement on Friday.
“On the 17th of April, 2025 at about 2:00 PM, we received a
report that a group led by one Alhaji Yikangi of Chikan village via Lemu
attacked one Muhammad Ma’aba of Fujeregi village," the PPRO said
"The attack was allegedly over a misunderstanding
related to one Fatima Suleiman of the same address. The victim was beaten
severely and fell into a coma. He was rushed to Lemu General Hospital but was
pronounced dead on arrival.”
Abiodun further noted that investigations are ongoing, and
efforts are being made to arrest all those involved in the crime.
