Monday, March 10, 2025 - The United States Department of State has assured Nigerian visa applicants affected by recent technical glitches that their interviews will be rescheduled.
Reports had emerged that some Nigerians were unable to attend their
scheduled visa interviews due to a partial system outage, causing disruptions
to their travel plans and uncertainty about their applications.
Jennifer Johnson, Press Officer in the Office of Public and
Congressional Affairs, Bureau of Consular Affairs, US Department of State,
confirmed the issue in a statement to Punch on Monday, March
10.
“All consular operations have resumed as normal,” Johnson said.
“Visa applicants, whose interviews must be rescheduled due to the outage, will
be notified.”
In 2023, the US revised its visa processing requirements for Nigerians,
making it mandatory for all applicants to visit the consulate general in Lagos
twice as part of the process. According to the US embassy, the new process aims
to help applicants better prepare for their visa interviews and reduce delays
in processing immigrant visas.
