Monday, March 24, 2025 -Babcock University has honored Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, with the Leadership Award of Excellence in recognition of his contributions to digital transformation and cyber security.
The award was presented during the 2025 Cyber Security Workshop held at
the university’s campus in Ilishan-Remo, themed “Building A Resilient Cyber
Security Ecosystem: Bridging Academia, Industry, and Organisational Practices.”
Receiving the award on behalf of the governor, Senator Shuaib Salisu,
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Information and Communication Technology
(ICT) and Cyber Security, highlighted Governor Abiodun’s commitment to
leveraging digital technology for development.
“Governor Abiodun understands the importance of the 4th Industrial
Revolution in career advancement, which is why Ogun State has recorded
significant achievements in digital transformation,” he said.
He noted that Ogun State has gained both local and international
recognition for its free tech empowerment programs and initiatives at the Ogun
Tech Hub, designed to equip youths, tech entrepreneurs, and startups with
digital skills.
“Nigerian youths must take advantage of the opportunities in
digitalization for career growth. The Ogun State government is committed to
enhancing career paths for individuals and organizations willing to embrace and
leverage digital technology,” Salisu added.
Senator Salisu, who was also honored with the ICT Policy and Cyber
Security Advocacy Excellence Award, emphasized the importance of digitalization
in governance, stating that Governor Abiodun’s technology-driven agenda has
improved service delivery across various sectors.
Speaking at the event, the Special Adviser on ICT to the Ogun State
Governor, Mr. Dayo Abiodun, expressed gratitude to Babcock University for
recognizing the governor’s efforts.
“This recognition will further motivate the governor to continue his
advocacy for the digital economy and cyber security,” he added.
Representing the Special Adviser, Olatundun Adekunte, Director of
Standard Regulations, Planning, and Research at the Ogun State Bureau of
Information Technology (BIT), outlined several digital innovations introduced
by the state government.
“These include education web portals, land administration platforms, and
business tax remittance portals, all aimed at enhancing efficiency and
transparency.”
Presenting the awards, Prof. Oludele Awodele, Director of Academic
Planning at Babcock University, commended Governor Abiodun’s visionary
leadership in promoting digital adoption.
“This award is in recognition of the governor’s relentless pursuit of
technological advancements, ensuring that the people of Ogun State embrace
digital innovation for growth and development,” he said.
