Monday, May 12, 2025 - Activist, Harrison Gwamnishu, has called out men of the Delta state security agents who were caught on camera assaulting a man in front of his wife and children. The man and his family were heading to church on Sunday, May 11, when they encountered men of Operation Sweep, a security agency in the state.
In the video he shared, the distraught wife of the man
could be heard shouting
‘’You are
beating my husband! You are supposed to be protecting us We are going to
church. We are on the street'
The husband who was seated on the driver's seat of the car,
could be seen struggling with one of the officers dressed in military
camouflage.
‘’I dey
respect your uniform'' the husband could be heard saying
Their little boy who was in the car could be seen crying as
he saw the harassment his father was being subjected to.
An obviously displeased Harrison wondered why the officers
mandated to go into the forest to ‘’sweep' out criminals including kidnappers
from the forests in the state are now the ones disturbing residents of the
state.
He called on the state government to rein the officers in
and prevent them from further harassments.
